A serious fire has started at an industrial estate in Winsford.

Ten fire engines were called to the scene of the blaze at an industrial estate on Leslie Road this Friday afternoon (May 24).

The A54 Oakmere Road, Mount Pleasant Drive were closed but reopened shortly after 5pm.

The entrance to Woodford Park industrial estate (Browning Way) remains closed while firefighters continue to work at the scene.

Nearby residents are being advised to close windows and doors as a safety precaution.

Police are also warning people to avoid the area. The fire is affecting part of a building close by.

Nearby industrial buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

Crews are using a ground monitor, two main jets and a hose reel in affected areas. One water tower is also in use.

The fire has affected approximately 20metres by 30metres of stored wooden pallets which had spread to a single storey brick building.

Firefighters are making good progress but will remain on site for some time.

The only road remaining closed is Browning Way which will remain closed while crews work at the scene.

A team from the Environment Agency North West are also assisting the fire service.
