HMD Global is now sending out an update to Android 9 Pie to the Nokia 5, a mid-range phone launched in 2017. The company is definitely among the fastest out there when it comes to updating handsets that aren’t flagships to the latest versions of Android.
The news was proudly announced on Twitter by Juho Sarvikas, HMD’s Chief Product Officer. The Nokia 5 has been on quite a journey so far. When it was released it had Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board, and then it received an update to Android 8.0 Oreo last year.

Like all software updates, expect the Nokia 5’s Pie release to be rolling out in stages. As such, don’t panic if you own the phone and haven’t seen an update notification yet – it should be coming within the next few days.
